It takes a village…
This is as true as ever around here. It takes our whole Challenge Discovery “village” to prepare and train for our programming. This is the time of year where we are delivering indoor programming, including our Common Ground program. However, this time of year also allows us to prepare for the upcoming outdoor season! Here are some ways that we do that:
- We hire new Facilitators
- New facilitators participate in New Hire Training (Dates are approaching)
- We do additional training and recertification with our returning team members.
One of the reasons that we have been around for 40 years is that we take the time to set a purposeful example for developing a healthy and productive team culture. This culture is intentional, meaning we work hard to be sure we are “walking the talk”, not just saying that we do the hard work. Because we are so intentional, it is important that we find individuals who align with our core values. In fact, that’s one of the most important parts of finding a NEW JOB anywhere! Do you have similar values at your core, as the company you are seeking?
The reason this is important anywhere is that 40 hours (or more) per week is A LOT of time to be spending somewhere. At Challenge Discovery especially, the days are long; they are hot; you are sweaty; but at the end of it all, it is rewarding. It is easy to burnout quickly when working so hard. If you are going to be working that hard, you must believe in the work. So as you are considering the work that you will be doing, also ask yourself a few questions during your next job search:
- What is most important to this company?
- Am I clear on the company’s core values?
- Do I align with these values?
- Does this company help their employees learn, and continue to align as they grow?
If you can determine a great fit of your values with a company’s, you are give yourself a chance to be energized by your work, not drained; empowered by your company, not taken advantage of. This is our hope at Challenge Discovery. We are ALWAYS seeking people who are a great fit for us. But the only way to find out if you might fit is to learn about us, and continue to ask yourself these questions.
